Screening is a process that helps match people with volunteer positions while improving the quality and safety of the programs and services offered in communities. Volunteer Canada’s Ten Safe Steps of Screening is a practical, easy-to-use guide to volunteer screening that can help you reduce the risks that your organization faces.

Morning Update Session (9:30 am – 10:30 am) Sandra O’dorico, Manager of Data Services at the Guelph Police Service will provide updates on recent changes to the guidelines to Police Records Checks, including the different levels of checks, the information that is included in a check, the process for acquiring a check and other important considerations. Volunteer Centre staff will also provide an update on the Best Practices in Volunteer Screening Program. There will be an opportunity to ask questions. 

All day Workshop (9:30 am – 4:00 pm) Participants will learn about the Ten Safe Steps, how to apply them and what policy considerations must be addressed. Participants will be asked to bring their organizations’ screening tools and policies to this workshop. Lunch included.
